A Half-Day Water Team Building Experience in the Peak District - What to Expect

Looking for a team building experience that feels active, refreshing and easy to organise?

Our half-day water experiences in the Peak District are designed to bring teams together through shared adventure, scenic surroundings and plenty of memorable moments along the way.

Here’s what your team can expect from a typical half-day water experience with HDK Events.

Easy transport from your chosen location

Your day begins with organised transport from a designated pick-up point, making the experience simple from the start.

Return transfers are included for locations within approximately 30 minutes of the venue, with optional upgrades available for teams travelling from further afield.

This means your group can relax, travel together and arrive ready for the experience ahead.

Arrival at the riverside activity base

On arrival at our dedicated riverside location, our experienced river partners will help your team get prepared for the day.

You’ll be guided through:

  • choosing the right wetsuits
  • fitting safety equipment including helmets and buoyancy aids
  • using the on-site changing facilities and lockers

Once everyone is ready, professional instructors will deliver a full safety briefing, so your team feels confident before heading onto the water.

Your river experience - tailored to your activity choice

Each group’s journey will vary slightly depending on the activity you’ve chosen, but all experiences focus on teamwork, wellbeing and enjoying the natural surroundings.

Raft Building Experience

If your team has chosen raft building, you’ll be split into smaller groups and given materials to construct your own rafts.

Working together to plan, build and launch your design is where the fun really begins, expect plenty of laughs, teamwork and friendly competition before setting sail on the water.

Kayaking or Canoeing Journey

For teams choosing kayaking or canoeing, you’ll enjoy a gentle guided journey along a scenic stretch of the River Derwent (approximately 2km).

This relaxed route allows teams to move at their own pace while taking in the beautiful Peak District surroundings.

Paddleboarding a relaxed and flexible water experience

Paddleboarding has become one of the most popular water activities in recent years, thanks to its calm pace and accessibility. For many teams, it offers a gentle challenge that feels fun rather than intimidating.

For groups with mixed confidence levels, paddleboarding can be combined with kayaking or canoeing, allowing individuals to choose the option they feel most comfortable with on the day.

This flexibility helps ensure:

  • everyone can take part at their own pace
  • confidence builds naturally
  • the group stays together rather than feeling split

As with all our water activities, professional instructors are on hand throughout to provide guidance, support and reassurance.

Wild swimming - a moment to reset

During your journey, you’ll reach a designated wild swimming location where your team can pause and experience the water in a calm, natural setting.

Wild swimming has become increasingly popular for team experiences because it encourages people to slow down, step out of routine and reconnect with the environment around them. The cold water and peaceful surroundings often leave people feeling refreshed, energised and more present creating a shared moment that teams remember long after the day ends.

Participation is always optional, and professional instructors are on hand to guide the experience safely and at a pace that suits the group.

Designed to be simple, flexible and memorable

Our half-day water experiences are built around ease and flexibility, allowing teams to enjoy the Peak District without worrying about logistics or over-planning.

For teams wanting to make more of the day, the experience can be extended to a full-day programme from £149pp, combining your water activity with an additional land-based or wellbeing experience. This is ideal for teams travelling further or looking for a more immersive away day.

HDK Events can help coordinate:

  • transport and transfers
  • guided water activities
  • catering options, from light lunches to relaxed pub meals
  • accommodation for overnight stays
  • additional land-based activities or wellbeing sessions

All organised through one friendly, local team, so everything works seamlessly together.
